#03) 1976 Exit Dying
"In an effort to rekindle interest in the theater, a made-for-TV movie was filmed at The Grand and in other Oshkosh locations in 1976. Produced and directed by University of Wisconsin Oshkosh professor Bob Jacobs, Exit Dying starred nationally known actor Henry Darrow and told the fictional story of a seemingly haunted theater in a Midwestern town."
(Description courtesy of the Grand Opera House History's (deleted) page)

Additional information found on the Web: The movie "premiered October 31, 1976", and the late Mark Gruenwald, UW Oshkosh class of 1975, "served as Associate Art Director on the film."

Thirty second samples from the CD in both RealAudio and MP3 formats could have been heard on the "2002-03 Season Artists Song Excerpts" page, but the Grand decided this was not important historical information so the page was deleted. The page was backed up by the Internet Archive [Archive], but the song samples were not backed up and are permanently lost.

#C)  Description of the Sampler CD: (top/bottom of page)

The Sampler CD, released August 24, 2001, is the first known recording officially released by the Grand Opera House since it was built in 1883. Research is in progress to track down other recordings made in the Grand Opera House and released by other musicians or record producers. About 35,000 copies of the CD and the accompanying booklet were printed, with about 15,000 being postal mailed to those on the regular Grand Opera House mailing list and the rest being distributed for free at other locations and in other ways. In the first week of September, booklets/CD's were also distributed via campus mail to the 1000+ Faculty and Staff at UW Oshkosh.

The CD contains 19 selections by performers who were scheduled to perform during the 2001-2002 season. The CD was released in a plain white paper envelope/sleeve which was attached with an easily removed rubber cement type of adhesive to the center of the 32 page Season promotional booklet. The liner notes for the CD are printed on page 17 of the booklet. Thirty second samples from the CD in both RealAudio and MP3 formats can be heard on the "2001-02 Season Artists Song Excerpts (deleted) page.

"The Grand Opera House Foundation would like to thank all participants, agencies, artists and copyright holders for agreeing to be part of this CD. This CD is for promotion use only and cannot be sold. Unauthorized duplication is a violation of applicable laws. All rights reserved. A portion of the cost of this CD was generously donated by Time Warner Cable [of NorthEast Wisconsin]".

At this time I don't know if there was an "official" release date for this CD or not. I picked up my copy of it in the mail at my P.O. Box on the way out of town to La Crosse on Friday, August 24, 2001. The signature shown on the scan of the John Gorka page below was obtained from him at the Great River Folk Festival that weekend. It was the first time John had seen a copy of the new CD on which he appears.
