Cachet Display Catalog: FDC Cachetmakers Index

      This page displays First Day Cover (FDC) cachets and special event covers created from 6-21-1939 until about 2015 by the Temple Stamp Club of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, aka Masonic Temple Stamp Club OR Temple Masonic Stamp Club.

All Known Wisconsin First Day Cover Cachetmakers -- What's New on this page

      Except as noted by "{A}" (my personal collection), the other displayed covers were found on the Web. All displayed cachets are listed in First Day of Issue (FDOI) order.

      Click on an image for the original, mostly, larger scan or download (.jpg). If the description includes "***", the only download found on-line was smaller than 600 pixels, or I do not own and have not found on-line this known cachet. A 600 pixel wide or larger .jpg image is WANTED. Do NOT send any .gif or .tiff or anything except .jpg files. Thank you.

          "Member / Temple Stamp Club / of / Milwaukee"
          By an unknown member who modified the 1939 Show Cachet above. However, as all four 1940-1943 FDC's, and the 1949 event cover below I have seen are all addressed to the same person, it may be that C.S. Gruetzmacher may be the previously unlisted Cachetmaker for all of them, or he may be just the artist the Club used to design some of the covers they produced. So far, these five (1940-1949) covers are all unique with no known to me covers sent to different addressees. Actually, Gruetzmacher's address does not prove he designed any cachets for the Temple Stamp Club. More covers need to be found with different addressees, or some new definitive research that documents who designed each of the cachets on this page.
    U.S. Scott #C25a - Temple Stamp Club of Milwaukee
  7. U.S. Scott #2154, 8-26-1985, Temple Stamp Club of Milwaukee --- {A}
          At the moment, per the 2006 edition of "First Cachets", this is listed as the First Cachet by this Club. Whether finding the above covers will change the Club's "First Cachet" is yet to be determined (see #C25a above).

  8. U.S. Scott #2420, 8-30-1989, Temple Stamp Club of Milwaukee / Unknown --- {A} / (eBay) / {A}
          The 4-24-1981 #1893 FDC is shown by an unknown Cachetmaker which has the identical but larger cachet, and without the Temple's lettering.
          10-24-2021: This larger cachet is pictured on page 250 of Steenerson's SEVENTIES Catalog" on a #1787 -- 6-15-1979 -- Seeing Eye Dogs FDC identified as a DRC (D. Rick Chase) cachet.
          At this time I do not know what connection there was between Chase of Waterloo, IA and the Temple Stamp Club of Milwaukee.

  1. From Clarence Davis on 1-17-2021, Historian of the Wisconsin Federation of Stamp Clubs (WFSC)
          "The 1947 Convention Souvenir Program lists the Temple Club as a member of the Federation and lists its members. There were three Milwaukee clubs listed as members that year. The 1948 Program indicates that some members of the club exhibited or participated in some session but does not list the club as a member of the Federation. The 1990 and 1991 Programs do not list member clubs, and I do not find any annual lists of member clubs."

  6. The Masonic Philatelist, 6/2015, 71(2), p. 45
          "Bro. Bob cited the many other Masonic stamp clubs which largely lived and died with their founders and driving force. These included the Temple Stamp Club of Milwaukee ...."
          I assume this means the Club disbanded sometime before 2015.
